K-8 Special Education teaching position available for the start of the 2020-21 school year at public charter school in Norwalk, CT: 
 

Side by Side Charter School, an innovative, diverse PreK-8th grade public charter school in Norwalk, CT seeks a full time SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER for Grades K-8.

 

This is a unique position designed to provide academic intervention and support services to students based on the goals and objectives outlined in their IEPs.  You will work with both students and teachers in an inclusive setting. Many of the responsibilities include working in a variety of classrooms/grade levels, completing all of the paperwork and documentation required by the PPT process as case manager, assessing and making observations of students, creating materials to support their learning, generating appropriate strategies, and communicating with parents. Requires teamwork, organization, creativity, and flexibility.

Ideal candidate should have a passion for interdisciplinary teaching in particular relating Literacy to Social Studies & History.

K-8 TESOL/ELL teaching position available for start of 2020-21 school year at public charter school in Norwalk, CT: 

Side by Side Charter School, an innovative, diverse, regional public charter school in Norwalk seeks a creative, well-qualified ESL teacher to join our tight-knit, energetic team. In this role, you will plan instruction for non-native speakers in grades K-8 utilizing the Connecticut English Language Proficiency Standards (CELPS). You will also support teachers as they strive to engage in best practices with their English language learners in the general education classroom 

As a teacher in our school, you’ll create individualized educational plans based on each student’s needs and evaluate their learning progress, including the annual LAS Links assessment which is administered statewide each year in Connecticut. A key part of your role will also be to build positive relationships with parents help them understand their student’s progress.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lessons and materials for classroom and small group implementation
  • Work with teachers to co-assess students’ progress in learning English
  • Create individualized plans for students based on the CELP standards.
  • Stay abreast of new teaching methods for teaching English as a second language
  • Inform parents about student progress
  • Independently plan and manage a service schedule for K-8 students 
  • Collaborate with staff and families to provide a positive learning experience to students

Requirements

  • Applicants must hold appropriate CT certification endorsed for TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
  • Knowledge of various methods of teaching English to non-native speakers
  • Great organizational and communication skills
  • Sensitive to and supportive of the needs of newly arrived immigrants
  • A strong desire to work in a small, collaborative environment
