PreK children are provided with many opportunities to explore and use mathematical concepts. The children develop mathematical thinking through our every day routines and hands-on experiences.
Some examples are:
- calendar
- weather
- attendance
- snack time
- manipulatives (i.e. unifix cubes, colored tiles/counters, pattern blocks)
- small group and large group mathematical investigations
The math concepts and skills emphasized in our PreK classrooms are:
- Number exploration and identification
- Counting
- Sorting
- Shape exploration and identification
- Graphing
- Measuring
- Classifying
- Comparing
- One-to-one correspondence
- Patterning
