Dress Code Policy

All students must adhere to Side by Side's uniform policy for Lower School or the dress code policy for Upper School. Parents may buy school clothes at any store (Old Navy, Target, etc), as long as they meet dress code standards.

We at SBS believe uniforms:

  • Promote an environment where clothing is not used as a status symbol.
  • Promote a sense of professionalism.
  • Ensure that children are dressed comfortably and appropriately.
  • Can be more economical than regular clothing and reduce stress about what to wear in the morning.
  • Promote a sense of belonging and school spirit.

Lower School (Pre-School through 4th Grade) Dress Code

  • Solid colored white or blue tops (logos other than SBS logo can be no larger than the size of a quarter), no graphics, patterns or prints.
  • Solid colored blue or khaki pants/skirts/shorts.
  • For safety, only rubber soled shoes, with no heels or open toe; no open-back.
  • Hats are permitted for weather protection or religious reasons only. Baseball caps are not allowed.
  • Please, no very-short skirts, shorts, nor excessively baggy clothing (as determined by school personnel) will be allowed.

If a child comes to school out of dress code, he/she will be asked to wear a school T-shirt. We will send home a reminder note about our dress code. The classroom teacher will contact the parent if a child comes to school out of dress code on a chronic basis.

With the exception of cell-phones, which must be kept off and tucked away in backpacks, electronic equipment (gameboy, walkman, DVD player, ipod, etc.) is not permitted at school.
