Dear Side by Side Families,
Congratulations to the Side by Side Enrichment students for their production of a short film entitled, "The Lost Colony." Side by Side middle-schoolers Ricardo Bermudez, Jordan McGarty, Jason Munoz, Sarah Shillinglaw, and Alice Schaumann spent many after-school hours studying the possible causes for the lower population of long legged waders of the Norwalk Islands. As their concluding project for this study, these students created "The Lost Colony", documenting their learning process. Their film was proudly screened at the Wild and Scenic Film Festival hosted by The Norwalk Seaport Association last week (Jan. 29th ). It was a rewarding experience to watch the film at this venue as well as to take note that it was the ONLY film in this festival that was created and produced by school-age children. Great job! I would also like to extend a special thanks to staff members Mary Newbery and Jennifer Dauphinais for helping with the middle-school Enrichment program and the production of this short film.
CMTs approaching….Important Parent Forum upcoming…The CT Mastery Tests (CMTs) will be administered to all students in grades 3-8 during the first week in March. In preparation for these tests as well as to communicate to parents about the steps we have taken to address school improvement, we will be holding a special parent forum on Thursday evening, 2/25. This forum will be for parents/guardians only and will focus on explaining the processes that have been occurring at Side by Side to help to improve student achievement. I strongly urge all parents to attend this important and informative forum. We have a wealth of information to share and will specifically be addressing the ways that you can help your child to succeed on the CMTs. If you have any questions regarding the content or administration of the CMTs, please contact Mary Newbery at ext. 137.
Please remember that school will closed for winter recess beginning Monday, February 15 through Friday, February 19. Have a wonderful break and stay warm!
Sincerely,
Mr. Nittoly
